What is the documentary style of wedding photography?
When I became a full-time wedding photographer, I discovered my passion for the documentary style of photography. The elegance and purity of classic wedding photography is what initially attracted me to this work, yet I also love the approach of well-known reportage photographers who shoot everything from social documentaries to wars. Trying to project their style into wedding photography is a great experiment and adventure in one for me.
At weddings, I remain practically invisible almost the entire time. I blend in with the crowd of wedding guests who soon stop noticing me. I never arrange anything (except for group photos and portrait photography of newlyweds) and simply document what is happening around me. Of course, as a photographer, I try to capture everything in neat compositions. Hunting for these snapshots is great fun and the best way to pass the time when “nothing seems to be happening” at a wedding.
